D.O.Ca Rioja
Rioja is a qualified designation of origin (DOCa) of Spain that distinguishes certain wines produced in areas of the autonomous communities of La Rioja and the Basque Country mainly and, to a lesser extent, in Navarra and Castilla y León , 4 (less than 2.5 km²). Due to the orographic and climatic diversity, three production sub-zones are distinguished - Rioja Alta , Rioja Oriental (Rioja Baja) and Rioja Alavesa - where wines of different characteristics originate. The average annual production of Rioja wine is 269 million liters (in 2020) (85% red wine and 15% white and rosé wine). Rioja wines are fresh, aromatic, with a balanced composition and an excellent bouquet .
DOCa Rioja wine is identified by its back labels and numbered seals. It is the designation of origin most chosen by consumers both inside and outside the home, with 36% and 27%, respectively, of consumption. 5
