Bestué Finca Rableros, a distinguished red wine from the Somontano region, is produced by Bodega Otto Bestué. This wine beautifully marries 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Tempranillo grapes, sourced from the single vineyard Finca Rableros. The vineyards, situated at an elevation of 350 meters above sea level, benefit from the unique microclimate at the foothills of the Pyrenees, characterized by cold winters, hot summers, and moderate rainfall, providing optimal conditions for these grape varieties to flourish.

The vinification process involves destemming, fermentation, and a 20-day maceration with the skins, followed by a 7 to 9-month aging period in American and French oak barrels. This methodical approach ensures the development of a wine that expresses both the terroir’s distinct characteristics and the nuanced complexity of its grape blend. The aging in oak barrels imbues the wine with a harmonious balance of fruit and spice, complemented by a silky texture and medium body.

In terms of tasting notes, Bestué Finca Rableros displays a medium purple color with a violet rim, offering aromas of red berries, spices, toast, balsam, and black pepper, with underlying hints of underbrush. On the palate, it presents ripe tannins and refreshing acidity, culminating in a medium finish with notes of raspberries, clove, and toast.

This wine’s straightforward and versatile character makes it an excellent choice for a variety of food pairings, including aperitifs, cold meats, duck, grilled red meats and vegetables, pasta with red sauce and meat, roasted foods, and more. Bestué Finca Rableros stands out as a great value from Somontano, offering a delightful alternative to higher-priced wines of similar grape compositions.

Somontano

Somontano is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) for wines, created in 1984, and located in the county of the same name, in the province of Huesca, (AragonSpain). It borders the regions of Sobrarbe and Ribagorza in the North, Hoya de Huesca in the West, the Monegros in the South, and the region of Litera in the East. Wine production is centred on the town of Barbastro. The name Somontano, as its Latin roots suggest, means “beneath the mountain” – this perfectly defines this geographic area which spreads out from the foothills of the Pyrenees down to the Ebro valley. The DOP includes 43 municipalities, most of them in the Somontano area, and a few bordering on Ribagorza and the Monegros. There are over 4000 hectares of vines and about 500 individual grape-growers.
